BreakOuts

BreakOut and Go on an Adventure!

Are you looking for a way to expand your knowledge on different domestic or international issues while sharing in partnership with others? A BreakOut trip is an experiential opportunity to engage with others through a variety of services, including but not limited to: visiting seniors, engaging in learning about a social justice issue, tutoring and mentoring school-aged children, cultural immersion and appreciation, and many other opportunities, while also broadening your own perspectives.

BreakOut groups prepare together and use group reflection and journaling to make essential connections between the experience and a larger goal of social justice, rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.

Participants' quotes

It's hard to believe a year ago, I was preparing for a week-long immersion in Tijuana, Mexico. One year later, that week has changed my life so greatly, and I am preparing for a semester-long immersion across Central America. It is incredible the impact that that week had on my life, and I can't even wait to see the impact that this semester will have.    --Julie Benedetto

I learned the value and appreciation of different cultures and how much there is to be gained by an experience if you immerse your whole self, not just part of. I learned to love the twelve people I was with and I learned this very quickly, I learned the value of lending a helping hand, I learned the value of seeing another smile and watching their eyes twinkle with happiness, I learned how to tie a bracelet for a small wrist, I learned how to drive in Puerto Rico…I learned how to open my whole heart to an experience, forget about time, forget about my phone, and love fearlessly. I learned the value of value and love.  -–Morgan Cox

I learned a lot about the social challenges facing major cities including Chicago, and developed strong relationships that have lasted after the trip with my fellow flyers.  --Kyle Brun
