As the engineering industry rapidly evolves, there is a constant flow of new ideas into the School of Engineering to ensure students are prepared to make an impact in the workforce. The Dean’s Cabinet, a working group of faculty and staff leading initiatives aligned with the School’s strategic vision, are working hard to make those ideas a reality.

Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor Kim Bigelow was awarded the status of Fellow in the American Society of Biomechanics (ASB). She will be recognized at the annual ASB conference in August.

Senior mechanical engineering student Christian Fowlkes chose to get involved with the Ethos Center after attending an informational event for the program his junior year. He traveled to Alotenango, Guatemala in March 2023 to complete his first international breakout. His experience was life-changing, and he knew he wanted to go back and help to continue the project they started. 

Ron Waldorf joined forces with an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department to create the DAX Evidence Recorder, which records eye movements of an impaired driver. Looking to reduce costs and prepare the DAX product for mass production, Waldorf connected with the Innovation Center in the School of Engineering to become a sponsor of a senior design project.

UD's Division of Student Development has selected Liesl Carter, a mechanical engineering major from Centerville, Ohio, as the recipient of the John E. Riley Award. This award recognizes a junior student who has exercised sustained leadership through involvement with student initiatives, exemplifying the educational and service values of the University and Marianists.
